Obtain Checklists for documents required for Attestations through Downloads

 

(i) Electronic Document Attestation System (e-DAS)

Any document issued by a Sri Lankan Institution should be attested by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka through the Electronic Documents Attestation System (e-DAS).

The digital customer copy should be submitted to the Embassy in person with the valid Sri Lankan passport and residence permit card or via email with a scanned copy of the candidate’s passport and residence permit card.

For documents attested by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka (e-DAS documents), the candidate may obtain remote consular services through this Embassy.

(ii) Attestation of documents issued by Foreign Authorities

Any document issued by a foreign authority or agency will be accepted for attestation ONLY IF the English translation of such document is counter-attested by the relevant Foreign Ministry of the document issued country.

(iii) Attestation of Power of Attorney/Affidavit/No-Objection/Leave Certificates - Sri Lankan citizens

Only Sri Lankan citizens could sign documents / declarations such as Power of Attorney or Affidavits before a Diplomatic officer at the Embassy.

The Embassy’s Diplomatic officers are authorized under the Consular Functions act to provide this service.

Candidates requiring services for attestation should present themselves in person with their valid Sri Lankan Passport and valid visa (or Dual Citizenship certificate) to the Embassy.

 

Legalization of a Power of Attorney requires the Principal candidate to present themselves at the Embassy with their valid Sri Lankan passport and valid residence permit/dual citizenship certificate.

Relevant official documents should be produced to substantiate the facts given in an Affidavit or a Power of Attorney. In the event of non-submission of relevant official documents to substantiate the facts contained in an Affidavit or a Power of Attorney such an Affidavit or a Power of Attorney will not be considered for attestation.

 

Affidavits produced to substantiate the alterations made in identification documents issued by the Government such as Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Death Certificates, Passports, Driving Licenses, National Identity Cards etc. will be attested only if the alterations have been made in the original documents and certified by the issuing authority.

(iv) Attestation of documents - Foreign Nationals

Attestation of documents / declarations such as Affidavit or Power of Attorney signed by a Foreign Citizen are accepted for attestation only if such document is certified by a authorized authority (Notary) of the country of his /her residence.

These documents which should be in English / English translation should then be authenticated by the relevant country’s Foreign Ministry prior to submission to the Embassy for attestation.

Other Important Information

  • Candidates/witnesses in the process of the renewal of their residence permit/visa should submit the visa extension details, in English, authenticated by the relevant country’s foreign Ministry.
  • Incomplete applications and missing documents may result in delays.
  • Embassy will not take any responsibility for documents lost or delayed in the post.
  • Attested documents are not sent to Sri Lanka by the Embassy.
  • The candidate is responsible for arranging a courier service to collect attested documents from the Embassy premises in Stockholm for documents required to be couriered to Sri Lanka.
  • To arrange for collection through the courier service, please obtain confirmation from the Embassy’s Consular Division, providing at least 3 working days’ notice for the date of collection.
  • Documents can only be collected during 10.00 am to 04.00 pm (Stockholm time) from the Embassy.
  • You must submit the shipment ID details, including the barcode issued by the courier service company via email.
  • Please avoid using the Embassy’s email as the primary email for such services.

The Embassy does not accept payments made by cheques. If paid by the Debit/Credit Cards (Only VISA and Master cards) at the Embassy, bank commission of 1.5% will be added to the payment.
