A Non Machine Readable Passport (NMRP) can be issued in lieu of a lost passport of a Sri Lankan national, ONLY to return to Sri Lanka.
However, if the Embassy has accepted an application in lieu of a passport which is expired or lost and the applicant required a Travel Document for Emergency Traveling ONLY to return to Sri Lanka, NMRP may issued as a stop gap travel document until the renewed passport is received.
NMRP is valid only for ONE month from the date of issue.
Documents Required:
- Follow the instructions (See here) to report the lost /stolen Passport and obtain required receipts / reports.
- Duly completed application form (Form ‘K’- 35 A). Fill the application using English Block Letters – (Download Application Here).
- Statement made by the applicant regarding the loss of passport
- Original Police Report issued by the local police regarding the lost passport. This Document must attest from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country which it issued.
- Photocopy of Lost Sri Lankan Passport (If available)
- Three clear photographs of 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size.
Please attach clear photographs with full front face, both ears visible, without covering face by hair and without spectacles. Photographs should be taken within 03 months. Should not be gloss or semi-gloss.
- Birth Certificate (translations not accepted).
- Sri Lanka National Identity Card (N.I.C) or driving license.
- Copy of the Visa issued by current country of residence or Original Resident Permit Card or letter issued by the Immigration Authority of the Country of Residence indicating the status and category of your visa. This Document must attest from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country which it issued.

To issue Non Machine Readable Passport (NMRP) if previous Passport lost and valid Only to return to Sri Lanka is SEK 1605:-

- The Embassy does not accept PAYMENTS MADE BY CHEQUES. If paid by the Debit/Credit Cards (Only accept VISA and Master cards), Bank commission of 1.56% will be added to the payment.

You may submit the application to the Consular Division of the Embassy by hand or post. The Consular Division is open from Monday to Friday except holidays (09.30 a.m. – 02.30 p.m). Please obtain an online appointment from embassy website prior to visit to the Embassy to ensure the priority service.

Getting Service through post:
- All the original documents / applications must be attached and applicant must sign in front of the Honorary Consul appointed by the Government of Sri Lanka for the particular country or region. Applicant must ensure that the Honorary Consul signed at the relevant places of all the documents / Applications.
- Relevant fee must be paid to the Embassy bank account (Details given below) and the receipt of the payment must be attached to the application / Document.

If paid in a country other than Sweden: SEK 50 (Cross Border Transaction fee) & SEK 02 ( SEPA Payment)

- Please note that according to the financial regulations of Sri Lanka, the fee paid will NOT be refunded.
