Renunciation of Sri Lankan Citizenship

An applicant who expects to renounce his /her Sri Lankan Citizenship is required to submit the following documents to the Embassy;

  1. A letter of request with all contact details of the applicant addressed to the Controller General/ Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka
  2. Duly filled and attested Form K with a copy
  3. Personal Particulars Form
  4. Foreign Passport of the applicant
  5. Copy of the Foreign Citizenship Certificate authenticated by the respective Foreign Ministry and a photocopy of the same
  6. Original Sri Lankan Dual Citizenship Certificate with a copy
  7. Sri Lankan Citizenship Certificate issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration ( if available) with a copy
  8. Original Sri Lankan Passport with a copy
  9. Original Sri Lankan National Identity Card, If available, with a copy
  10. Original Sri Lankan Birth Certificate

Department of Immigration and Emigration, Colombo, Sri Lanka will communicate with the applicant directly, after the documents are received through the Embassy

All documents should be submitted through the Embassy or Citizenship Division of the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Colombo by the applicant.

Attestation of Form ‘K’                                 SEK 712

Legalization of documents issued by foreign authorities   SEK 492 (per documents)

Processing time:

  • Once the application is accepted by the Consulate General, it will be forwarded to the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka and the applicant will be informed via email.
  • The Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka, will acknowledge the receipt of the application, by email, direct to the applicant.
