Sri Lanka is emerging as a great destination for the international Golfing community. The country can boast of both colonial and modern style Golf courses which are scattered across the country. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced golfer, golf in Sri Lanka is a great way to spend your time. These Golf courses are located amidst most beautiful tropical sceneries imaginable. You can also combine Golfing with other great experiences such as wildlife safari, tea trailing, wellness retreats, beach holidays and great culinary experiences among many other wonders.

 

Sri Lanka has Five 18 Hole Golf Courses i.e. Royal Colombo Golf Club (capital/at sea level), Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (central hill country/2070 meters) Victoria Golf & Country Resort (central hill country/600 meters), Shangrilla Hambantota (south coast/at sea level)  Eagles Golf Links (Eastern coast/at sea level).

Additionally, there are several 09 Hole Golf Courses spread island-wide such as Sandy Bay Golf Links Trincomalee, Koggal Golf Club, and Diyatalawa Army Golf Club. All golf courses charge a fee of between 250 and 500 kronor, and you can also expect to have to pay for a caddy and ball-finder.

World Amateur Golf Tournament will be held in Sri Lanka in September 2019.

Victoria Golf & Country Resort

The par-73 course at Victoria Golf & Country Resort is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Sri Lanka. The 18-hole championship course was deigned by the award winning Donald Steele & Co and offers lush views of Sri Lanka’s pristine nature far away from the bustling crowds. Shangri La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa

The Shangri La boasts the first and only resort golf course in Sri Lanka. The 18-hole course is divided into three scenic zones offering views of the surrounding lakes and the Indian Ocean. The par 70-course was designed by Rodney Wright following environmentally sustainable methods. After a game of golf, enjoy a stint at the resort’s fabulous spa which is one of the best in Sri Lanka.

Eagle’s Golf Links

Eagle’s Golf Links is located on Sri Lanka’s east coast. The 18-hole par-72 course offers a bit of a challenge and might be better suited to experienced golfers than absolute beginners. The beautiful course offers views of the Clappenberg Bay and Malay Cove. Eagle’s Golf Links works for a good cause helping service personnel settle back into civilian life after retiring and also donates part of their proceeds to Sri Lanka Ari Force personnel and their families.

Nuwara Eliya Golf Club

Nuwara Eliya Golf Club offers a grand taste of Sri Lanka’s colonial past – the club was first founded way back in 1889. The club offers a par-71, 18-hole course and welcomes beginners and seasoned golfers alike. There’s a pro shop on the club premises and clubs, shoes and balls may also be rented out.

Royal Colombo Golf Club

Originally founded in 1880, Royal Colombo Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Sri Lanka. The golf course is located in the capital of Colombo and features an 18-hole course and offers separate areas for practicing your swing. You can feel the rich history of the club throughout and enjoying a cocktail at the Guvnors Bar in the Club House is an absolute must. This is undoubtedly one of the most atmospheric golf courses in Sri Lanka.
